Many have collected records of Union or Confederate ancestors, but those soldiers and sailors weren’t the only ones in the crossfire. How did the Civil War impact the non-military members of your family? Were they doctors, nurses, privateers, farmers, ranchers, miners, trades people, wives, mothers, … politicians? Each in their own way suffered and supported the war effort, economy, the community, and their families during those turbulent years. What are their stories?
