Saturday, July 18
VCGS DNA Special Interest Group Meeting
8:00 am to 3:45 pm
Online using Zoom

Topic: Field Trip!

Join the VCGS DNA SIG as we journey on a virtual field trip to the Denver Public Library (architect: Michael Graves) and the Colorado Genealogical Society's DNA Seminar. This seminar covers Friday evening, 17 July, and all day Saturday, 18 July. Each day requires registration in advance, here: https://cogensoc.us/seminar.php but otherwise is free! There are two sessions on Friday evening, and five sessions on Saturday. You may attend all sessions, or only one or two, as you choose. Be aware that all times given are Mountain Time.

Because this falls on our reqularly scheduled DNA SIG meeting day, we will not hold a DNA SIG at the normal time. We will, however, hold a Zoom meeting at the end of each day (both Friday and Saturday) for those who wish additional discussion. Friday's VCGS Zoom meeting will be 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm Pacific Time. Saturday's VCGS Zoom meeting time will be TBA.

Please note that there is a time conflict with the regular VCGS meeting and presentation on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 Pacific Time. I strongly recommend that you plan in advance which presentation you want to attend, and keep a close eye on the clock. In California, David Flint is presenting "Overview of Genealogy Research in England," which should be excellent. Choices, choices!

The DNA SIG will hold the next in-person meeting when it is safe to do so. Until then, please protect yourself and others: Stay Safe At Home, and join us on Zoom!

[The end-of-day debriefing meetings will be held online with Zoom and an invitation will be sent out to the VCGS DNA SIG via email about 12-2 hours prior to the meeting. If you are not already on the email list you may contact the webmaster at webkeeper@venturacogensoc.org to be added.]

Saturday, August 15
VCGS DNA Special Interest Group Meeting
10:30 am to 11:30 am
Online using Zoom

Guest Lecturer: Megan Lee

Finding Mona – A Double Adoption Solved – Case Study

A thank-you gift of heritage; the adoptee solves her mother's adoption and presents her with the results. This lecture is a balance of the methodologies used to solve these adoptions and how you can easily use the same techniques for hard-to-break brick walls!

Megan Lee refers to DNA as her muse. Adopted, she worked her parents' genealogies while they were living and started on her adopted side after their deaths. Megan began taking DNA courses in 2013 and learned DNA through her adoption and without the constraints of a tree or the expected results. This deficit allowed the inheritance patterns of the DNA to guide her.

Seven years later, she carries an Advanced Genetic Genealogy Certificate from GRIP, a Genetic Genealogy Certificate from Excelsior College, a Certificate in Genealogy from Boston University, and ProGen. She is on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Genealogical Society, an administrator of their DIGs group, the Social Media Director for SCGS's Jamboree, and is a DNA project administrator for SCGS.

Please join us for this special presentation. Once each year the DNA SIG is privileged to welcome a visiting speaker. We are thrilled to have Megan Lee share her knowledge with us.

This is the highlight of our 2020 DNA lecture series. We hope to see you there!
