Rules and Procedures
The Ventura County Genealogical Society is pleased to announce, that in association with our 2024 Seminar, we will be holding an online Silent Auction with items including two popular genealogical software packages, one year subscriptions to three online genealogical research sites, and a three night stay at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, the headquarters hotel for our annual Salt Lake Safari where we have the opportunity to research in person at the FamilySearch Center.
The online silent auction will open on Saturday, October 5th. The bidding will close in three groups on Friday, October 18th, just before our Seminar, and successful bidders will be announced at the end of the Seminar.
Only people registered for the Seminar will be allowed to bid on items and a link to the Silent Auction will be sent to registrants on Friday, October 4th.
The Silent Auction webpage shows which auctions are closing at 4:00 PM PDT, 5:00 PM PDT, and 6:00 PM PDT and shows the current bid price. When you click on the Bid Now button, you will be brought to a drop-down menu where you can select the item you want to bid on and enter your bid. You will receive confirmation of your bid but there may be a time lag depending on the time of day of your bid. You will also receive a notice if you have been out bid but there may be a time lag depending on the time of day of your bid.
In the event of duplicate bids, the first bid received will be the successful bid.

This group of Silent Auction items includes three of the most popular online genealogy research sites, New York Genealogical & Biographical Society (NYG&B), the second-oldest genealogical society in the United States, and the only statewide genealogical society in New York state, Findmypast Ultimate with the largest collection of British and Irish records, and MyHeritage Complete with 28 billion historical records for researching your ancestors, especially from Europe.

SILENT AUCTION ITEM CLOSING AT 6:00 PM PDT ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18
This Silent Auction item is a certificate for a three night stay in a King Deluxe or Double Queen at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel. The Plaza Hotel is adjacent to the Family Search Center and is the base of operations for the VCGS Salt Lake Genealogy Safari every Spring. This certificate must be redeemed by November 2025. The value is based upon our discounted rates during the Salt Lake Safari. If the successful bidder selects to go at a different time, the value at standard room rates is just over $700.00.
