What We Are Seeking

President – the President of VCGS chairs the monthly board meetings and presides over the general membership meetings.  The President works with the Treasurer to responsibly manage the society’s finances and is also responsible for communicating and collaborating with the board and society membership.  The board consists of seasoned members who work well together and support the President throughout the year.  This is a one-year term commitment, and the position is not allowed to serve more than two multiple consecutive terms.

Corresponding Secretary – this board position is responsible for receiving, distributing, and controlling replies of all correspondence in connection with the Society.  The Corresponding Secretary also supports Newsletter Editor with the distribution of the monthly newsletter sent to all Society members.  When requested by Executive Board members or Committee Chairs the Secretary prepares a blast email (with attachments as needed) and distributes it to the Society’s membership.  Lastly, the Secretary prepares sends thank you letters to anyone who donates to the society.  If interested, or if you would like more information, please contact Ray Roth at membercomms@venturacogensoc.org.

Library Committee Chair – this very important position is responsible for overseeing and maintaining VCGS’ book collection housed at the Camarillo Library.  This involves coordinating book purchases; recruiting, training and scheduling volunteers to help library patron; work with the Treasurer to manage and report on the VCGS library budget; be the liaison to the Camarillo Library’s Head of Public Services; work with the VCGS Webkeeper to maintain website pages related to the library collection; and periodically conduct an audit of the collection.  This is a two-year term commitment, and the position is allowed to serve multiple consecutive terms.

Promotions – this position is responsible for creating promotional materials for VCGS. This includes flyers, brochures, etc. that promote the mission and programs of the society. It is helpful to have computer skills and familiarity with the software used for producing text documents, slide shows, and publications, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Publicity – we’re looking for someone to publicize press releases regarding our monthly general meetings. This volunteer will prepare announcements of upcoming programs and publicize them in county-wide newspapers, their online event calendars, online message boards, California societies, and county-wide libraries. Almost everything is transmitted electronically via computers and the internet. Gayle Wolcott will get you started. Please contact her at President@venturacogensoc.org.

Obituary extractions for the website – do you get excited when you find an obituary for one of your ancestors?  VCGS posts obituaries from the Ventura County Star on our website in hopes that we can assist folks researching their ancestors who lived in the area.  We need someone to extract basic information from the Ventura County Star obituaries and post this information on VCGS’s website. This is something that can be done without ever leaving your home. Marcie Malony will get you started. Please contact her at mjmalony@juno.com.

Registration – we need someone to manage the sign-in sheets at the VCGS monthly general meetings. This volunteer also,distributes name tags to members when needed, and reports on the number of attendees and guests attending each meeting. Marcie Malony will get you started.
